It’s hump day so why not have some strong booze to alleviate the mid week blues. We do like a good stiff one here in Smock Alley and this is just the ticket.
This combination of cider and rum, along with lime juice and ginger beer is a twist on a traditional Dark and Stormy, with the added oomph of cider.
While this drink is a thoroughly modern concoction, both cider and rum were of huge popularity in the 17th Century- cider production was at an all time high in and rum was becoming the drink du jour due to the growth in trade with the Caribbean.
For one drink, mix a standard measure of dark rum, with equal amounts of cider. Squeeze the juice of a lime wedge into it and add 2 measures of non-alcoholic ginger beer. Pour over ice and voila. Gingery, appley and de-lish!
